In a recent TapeOp review of the uad-1 5 out of 5 pro engineers chose the uad-1 1176 compressor over the real hardware, and over the bomb factory plugin.
This is notable for a few different reasons. Firstly because TapeOp loves analog hardware, and secondly because Universal Audio also makes the hardware 1176, so its unlikely that UA pushed them for any specific result on this test. So it appears to be an honest blindfold test win of plugin over hardware.
