Ali da ne ispadnemo bahati,
mozda najkompletniji opis, dovoljan pocetniku je na Wikipediji. Generalno, Wiki je krcat gomilom informacija vezanim za audio u opste.
Imas i istorijat i sve sto pocetnik treba da zna...

Milijardu puta sam pokusavao da raznim ljudima objasnim sta je mastering, ali nisam uspevao da nadjem dovoljno jasnu i razloznu "definiciju". Uvek "zaskripi" kod nekog podpitanja...
E, onda sam pre neki dan slucajno na "Gearslutz"-u, naisao na objasnjenje koje mi se ucinilo savrsenim (pretpostavljam da svi dovoljno barataju engleskim):

"You have a collection of rooms (mixes). Each of those rooms have certain furnishings (instruments, elements) that may have complementary or contrasting colors ('sonic signatures'). Those rooms are painted in particular color families (their overall sound as they are now). Might be burgundies, blues, browns, yellows, earth tones, etc.

Your job during mastering is to tweak particular shades of those colors to make them (A) individually flatter the furnishings and layout of each room and (B) bring the whole collection of rooms together to make it "a home" that has a reasonably consistent feel from room to room."
