Dynaudios are very interesting monitors. They have absolutely no family resemblance. The designer has made a Danish smorgasborg of the line. They are all voiced differently and each model has to be looked at individually. As such, they've had a lot of misses, and a few great hits.
I'm fond of and recommend the BM15 and BM15A for mixing. I do not know the M1's. I've heard the M3's and they were colored to my ears. The Air25 is a very very nice speaker for mixing, provided you are willing to feed it a digital signal. It's the ONLY Air series speaker that has a respectable voicing and tonal balance to my ears.
Robert's been mixing every style under the sun with the 8040's, as has Eric Shilling. They're suitable for just about anything except for playing loud. I wouldn't do hip hop at loud volumes on them, but I know you could do it at medium volumes without a "loud-demanding" client in the room. Everything I've heard from Eric and Robert from the 8040's has translated everywhere. They do not sound at all like the old Genelecs, so don't let your (and my) previous experience with Genelecs apply.
I have no experience with the BM6A's. My guess is they are too small to get a great result. My guess is the 8040's can play a bit louder and go down deeper. But that's just an educated guess. If you use a sub, make sure the BM6A's go down deeply enough to get a low enough crossover point. In my book, anything over 60-80 Hz crossover is asking for imaging and translation trouble, unless you use a pair of subs that effectively turn it into a pair of full range speakers. By that time you can just get the 8040s or the BM15s instead.
The 8040s and the BM15s go down low enough so in most rooms for most mixing purposes you do not need a sub.
