For a CD-recorder to be used successfully, a CD-burning program needs using a proper "driver" for it. Each CD-recorder has its own signature, made of a manufacturer name and an identification label. This signature is used by a program to find which driver to use.

Sometimes, a program can't find a driver because the signature of the CD-recorder is not registered. The reason can be:
a) A CD-recorder is newly available on the market while a CDR driver update is not yet available.
b) Sometimes, a manufacturer changes the signature of a CD-recorder without obvious reason.
c) A manufacuter X uses internally a device actually made by manufacturer Y, and we were not informed about the case.

If your Steinberg application does not recognize your CD-recorder, you can try the tool. There is no guarantee that it will solve your problem, but most of the time it will.

2) How to use it?

Run "Drvreg.exe"... the program displays a list of CD/CDR devices connected to your computer.
a) Right-click on the CD-recorder you need to have supported.
b) In the popup menu, select "Assign driver..."... A new dialog box appears...
c) In the "manufacturers" list, select the proper manufacturer. In the "models" list, select a device that you think is similar to yours (generally, a device produced in the same period). Then press OK.

From now on, your Steinberg program will use for your CD-burner the same driver used by the CD-burner you have selected in the list.

For your information, this tools simply modifies your registry at:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VOB\CDRAPP\Writer
