Plugin Alliance have announced that they?re about to release two(!) SPL deesser emulations, as well as Character, a plugin from Noveltech, previously available on the PowerCore platform.

Indeed, I said ?deessers? in plural. SPL is releasing software versions of both the ackPack Dual-Band De-Esser. Since Brainworx are the guys behind the SPL coding (and The Plugin Alliance for that matter) it should come as no surprise that they?ve added M/S functionality to them as well.

Noveltech?s Character was previously only available for PowerCore users but since TC?s DSP platform has been discontinued Noveltech joined forces with Plugin Alliance to make it available for all native formats, as well as TDM / Venue.

The Character plugin uses Noveltech?s IAF (Intelligent Adaptive Filtering) technology, which affects both the frequency response and dynamic properties of the input material in a highly time varying sense. Offering results you simply cannot achieve with traditional EQ or compression.

I wasn?t a PowerCore users so I haven?t tried Character. Funny though that another Character, from Metric Halo, is under way as well. Might confuse some people.
